We need to have Watson Speech To Text Service in German Language

35%-50% of the entire Europen market can be adressed by German language. Not all people know, that German langauage is not only used in Germany, bus in : Austria, Switzerland, partly Polen, Netherland, Hungaria, Slowakia, Tscheck Republic, Solvenia etc. .. in all these countries we have for exampe call and service center Watson opportunities with Speech... but we can not deliver ... we loose against Microsoft . ... we looose against Nuance... because IBM has no STT in German language. This must change NOW :-)

Especially in CP and Retail industry with many B2C use cases we have a lot of challenges to argue for IBM as the preferred partner for cognitive projects as long as we can not provide German language support.

The most saddest part of this story is, that IBM was the first inventor of voice recognition back in the 1950s (the shoe box recognizer). This ends up with IBM ViaVoice for Desktop and IBM WebSphere Voice Server for server based speech recognition where we have had the industry leading speech-to-text AND text-to-speach engine for German and many other European languages - recognized by independent analysts. Unfortunately, we sold it to Nuance in 2009. Now it seems, that we are rebuilding everything from ground...

And btw. ... see also here for some similar topics about speech recognition in Europe:

Call Center Outsourcing Provider in germany and  in DACH would ALL need the Speech2Text API available in german language to serve their german speaking clients.

Concrete client opportunities where we sell and need this API in german "URGENTLY" are:

#1 SELLBYTEL - belonging to BBDO/Ominicom /(the 3rd largest marketing holding in the world) is a Call Center Outsourcing company with centers in germany and spain and with more than 8000 employees around the globe providing Outsourcing Services to the market witrh clients like Google, Apple and other prominent brands. The opportunity here is to help them to automate the whole workflow of their agents.

#2 davero  - serving big insurance brands in germany like AOK, also urgently needs the API in german language

#3 Teleperformance-  The largest Call Center Outsourcer (217.000 employees ww)  in the world would need the API in german language  to better serve the DACH market

I support this urgent request for German language support. Beside the "German only" client opps. we may also loose the opps in the various global players based in DACH (e.g. Daimler, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Allianz). If we can't serve them in their local markets, they may choose multilanguage competitors for their global and local AI solutions approaches!

Also we risk dominating others (Amazon, MS, etc.) owning  local language support as important control point to smart home and many other retail client scenarios (speech enabled online banking, ordering, driving).

It's essential to provide support for German language when we are in customer situations. Currently we talk to Daimlers Global Language Management dept. about translation automation. Since Daimler headquarter is in Germany their origin is German to translate into all other needed languages worldwide. It's a huge opportunity since all language related operations for Daimler worldwide are controlled from Germany. Press releases, interviews, presentations, events, live translations will be created in German and need to be translated then. Here is feedback from a Watson partner who had to use Alexa in combination with Conversation service as no SST German is available: "

Since device add-on's like Siri, Alexa and Co. are accepted in private and our daily business, our customers would like to see and test speech-based frontends in their requested cognitive applications like customer-care apps or enterprise information portals build with IBM Watson technology on IBM Cloud. It is always sad to tell, that we've to use third party technology to build the speech-to-text part for our german language. So our customers have to deal with other cloud-platforms, id's, authorization issues and so on, only for the frontend-part of the application. If you take a look on a current case where we combined IBM Conversation with an Alexa frontend we made also the experience that it is hard to tell an user that not  the Conversation part is responsible for any misunderstanding but rather the Alexa-part, they blame it always on the entire application.

We have partners with identified oppties who are now bundling their Conversation / virtual agent services with Microsoft Azure API due to IBMs missing capabilitiy: we need STT German desperately.

For an opportunity with a insurance company, we needed to use google speech to text because it is available in german. This is not satisfactory. We definitely need it in Watson!!

Not sure why this needs a voting. If IBM want to be successful in Europe with Watson, it's an obvious  mandatory business need to have all in German language, too. I strongly support.

How important is German language? German has the largest number of native speakers in the European Union (far more than English, Spanish, or French). German is among the ten most commonly spoken languages in the world.

IBM has been a big player in Speech Recognition market ten years ago. We've sold the business to Nuance so we just need to license back our own technology. We have lost nearly all our Speech recognition developers and researches after we have sold the business to Nuance. Interesting to see that we now have to pay for what we have developed in the past. German language should not be an issues. It is just a matter of license costs.

I totally agree with Rene: why should we reimplement others have done and did well before us? We just need to provide the capability!

Today, I met some people from the senior management of the largest railway operator and infrastructure owner in Europe. Watson services with dialogs in natural spoken languages (German and other non-English european languages) are required to provide market leading services for their employees and customers. When are we able to deliver before others deliver?

To get full acceptance from customers in Germany and countries where the German language is used, there's an urgent need to have the Watson Speech to Text Service in natural language. It's a must have to get significant market share with our Watson solutions in that region!

Germany is one of the G7 and US allies, but none of the Arab countries or Korea has this political and economic weight. Why can WATSON understand Arabic and Korean but unfortunately not German? Here is a huge potential left. Please address this topic to IMB and publish a schedule for implementation as quickly as possible.

    Hello Rob,

first of all I would like to wish you a Happy New Year!

Regarding to this case, the original problem is solved after the
"soft-deleted" views have been finally removed. We discussed this status
yesterday during our regular meeting. A final question raised up, how a
view becomes soft-deleted. We always thought that this feature is only for
documents, but not for views and folders.

Here I become suspicious about the design element "Shared , Private on
First Use", once again. I remember at least two cases where this specific
design element was part of the problem. Can we say that the soft-deletions
you found have this characteristic, too?

This Note is a Deletion Stub...
There are in total 3 private views in softdeletion.

The question now, can an end-user initiate this deletion and is it
expected that these views become soft-deleted? Then I would also expect
that DBMT compact is able to handle this views/documents without errors.
If these views/documents have been soft-deleted "accidentally", do we have
a theory how this could happen (programmatic) and how to avoid this

Can you answer this question or further discuss this topic with your team?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Kind Regards,
    Claus Wunderlich
